Margaret House holds it’s 1st Dementia Friends Session

Two ladies from Margaret House have committed to making Royston a more dementia friendly place to live. Lea-Ann Smith and Sam Adby have been trained by the Alzheimer’s Society to be volunteer Dementia Champions and to help the Society in it’s quest to have 4 million ‘dementia friends’ by 2020 by holding Dementia Information Sessions. They held their first two sessions last week, one with members of the Royston Business Network and the second with local residents at Margaret House, at the end of each session people received their ‘dementia friends’ badge and committed to an action to make life easier for people living with dementia. Lea-Ann said “We have both volunteered to try and each make at least 100 new dementia friends over the coming months as we would love it if Royston was a place where as many people as possible understand a bit more about dementia. 1 in 14 people over 65 have dementia, so there are a lot of people and their families in our community who are effected by this disease. We have our next sessions arranged for Tuesday 3 July at 10.15 or 11.15 am at Margaret House, Church End, Barley, so please do come along”. To book a place please call 01763 848272.
